there is alot you can do but i recomend this 250 over bore camshaft for a torque cam change timing advancement and airflow it and also a set of piston of mine this will stop cutting away at needed casting. by wacking head and block you weaken them and this a two piece tractor someday but by adding a set of high compression pistons stops that need

Pulling in central NY ---tracks are mostly clay with a stone dust mix----Tire size are 13.5 x 38==old tires===kelley sprinfield can't slip tires with 45deg. lugs===

Jim you need a set of gears out of a late A [one with the six straight gears} change reduction gear and complete pulley if possible as it will have a much better clutch {it will have a extra clutch disk} will slow the tractor down about 1/4 mile per hr.and give you more torque.

Budd----- Well long story made short----- port and polished the head,---shaved the block 40k.and the head 10k----3 way cut on the valve seats--new valve guides---bored the block .125 over size==opened up the intake ===bypassed the o.e.m.air filter--went with a papper filter==(K&N)...fuel does make a difference---when i dynoed it I had 87 octane fuel--while still on the dyno I drained it and put 94 octane in----instant 2 hp...max hores came with 36-40 deg.timing with a distributor---not the mag---also hotter coil...I had 42hp.at the pto last year===hoping to get into the 50s this year----this year i am changing the camshaft configuration, and taking another 150k off the block,installing elctronic ignition... By the way---the clutch side reduction gear looks to be pressed on----the other gear fits a splined shaft---or if need be taken off by removing the rivits and heating the ring gear like you would a starter gear...What did you use for replacment gears,,,what kind of difference was there?. Thanks Jim.

Jim;

I would say yes this is an easy swap. I did this same thing this summer. It took my son and I a total of 5 hours from start to finish. I am assuming that you first reduction gear is the spline type as mine was. There is a small area of Seral numbers that will not work as they are a keyed type of gear. I do not have my book handy but if you look at these gears in the parts book you can figure it out. We changed the first reduction and the gear that is pressed onto the clutch only. I was told that I needed to replace the whole clucth, but that is not needed. Let me know if you need more info. ('';'') BUDD
