How many RPM's can you run safley on a Farmall M engine? Its basically stock other then some head work done. I pulled it today the fist time with a block in the Gov. Seemed like she was screaming a little too hard. Little scarry!

Remember centrifical stress increases with the square of the rpm. 3000rpm has 4 times the force of 1500 rpm. Just going from 1600rpm to 2263rpm doubles the force.

The big problem is the engine was never ment to turn fast rpm's in its stock form, the parts are not made that way,the stock pistons are heavy, have you ever held a stock piston and rod in your hand?,if you had you will know what I'm talking about, anything that has weight takes force to move it,SO,a piston moving up and down in the bore takes force, now times it by four and the force to move the mass has increased,NOW turn it fast!,,do ya get what I'm saying???

Our local partsman told me that 3000 RPM's was pushing the limit for the cast flywheel, needed to go to a steel one for RPM's past that. Who knows what condition your engine is (balance wise). good luck....err on the safe side!

I agree wit hDave on this one,, 3000 rpm is pushing the envelope with a stock flywheel, that has not been balanced for this rpm range.. If it was me, I would stay down around 2000, to 2300 range,, Would run a blanket though if you have concerns about safety. Just my opinion ChadS
