Is it possible to get 70hp out of a stock 450? I was told that they put out about 58hp from the factory, so 70 sounds a little fishy to me on pump gas.

First off Jeff the 450 was only rated at 55 PTO/Belt hp from the factory. With 4.125 firecreater pistons and a propane head you can get 65 hp pretty easy. Turning the RPM up to 18 or 1900 with a reworked Carb and you might get 70. My Super M with this set up will pull 65 hp on the dyno at 1750 rpm.

I agree with Red Rider,

The 450 came from the factory with all the good parts already there except the propane head. Don't see how you could do much better than 60-65 HP with 281 CID.

I can see that with a lp head and firecrater pistons, but then your not going to be running pump gas threw it, are you? I'll ask about the head, but he claims he's running 89oct super nolead from the pump. Iwould think the compression would be to high with domed piston and small chamber lp head to run pump gas and not melt her down!

That may be, but this is (stock) 4.125 bore 5.250 stroke. I think that I'm hearing a fishing story here! That's 12hp more than it was rated, and if there were 12hp more in that stock 281 I think IH would have found it! Think?

With the cam grind and over bore pistons, carb and manifold matched to the motors needs,70,80,and as much as 90hp can be had without spending much money,(under $500),,,,,So put your fishing rod away!

Think I'd like to order one of your 90 horse motors. [ Maybe an 80 horse too in case to 90 is too much...] Can you deliver COD?
