M with W6 rearend

Has anybody had success building a farmall using a W6 rearhalf with a M front?? Would think it would be a lightweight-high speed little unit.

I think some of the W6 or Super W6 had frame rails like the M. If so, the narrow front off an M should bolt up.

I pull a w-6 with 38" rubber on the back. If you get a set of hubs off of a 656 Farmall that had 34" press steel from the factory, they will go on the stub axle and will go against the bearing support. Then you put the origianal bolt and washer back on the end of the axle then tighten up the dual hub. You'll have to use center dished wheels or they will be to close to the rear end. Been pulling this set up for about 5 years. Hope this helps.

Yes you can un-bolt at the rear end and it will bolt up to a M. Save your self the trouble and just change the ring and pinions. Been there done that. If you change them make sure you get the bearing carrier out of the w6 that holds the shaft. It is different spacing than a M. Made that mistake too. Had to find one of those rascals for my M I'm building. Trying to save you some head headaches. My 2 cents.

The W-6 rear axle is held in place by the rear cast wheel,it keeps the axle from walking "inword",,,the bull gear holds it from walking "outword",,Also,,the axle seal has a spacer that turns with the hub,the seal keeps oil from leaking out of the rearend,,oil is to seep between the spacer and axle to keep the splined axle lubed so the hub can be removed if need be,,,

Yes you would need to use custom weld-on's with spacers as necessary. You would loose all the bulk of the axle supports etc. Has anybody done this??
