would like to hear from anyone out there that has successfully pulled a jd 70 diesel. mine is a 1955 bored 90 over and everything else to make it produce hp and torque. no one else in this area has tried one and they do not believe it will work. i have pulled it several times with limited success. this is the first 2 cyl diesel i have tried. this is just for fun but want to be competive.

I have a '54 70 gas that is powered up enough to not be a complete dud everytime. If the Hp and torque are sufficient, seems that they ought to pull comparably. I have 14.9 x 38 tires. I've been to 4 pulls with it and have had mixed success (35-40 tractors per class). I seem to do best in the 6500# class, top 5 finishes all four times. I have yet to get the right combination of weight placement and/or hitch length in the 7500# and 9500# classes so I don't feel its fair to say it won't pull those classes competitively, I'm still working on them! I use the stock hitch with a custom drawbar, but this winter I plan on making a new hitch that should be stiffer than the stock one, or atleast support the drawbar better, because I seem to have quite a bit of drawbar flex. I'd be happy to discuss more details with you if you would like....ToddF

I don't know why but someone shows up here every month with the same question of." I've pulled a little with my 70 diesel but I want more HP". Same answer again sonny for the 8th time. Trade the 70 for a 720/730 with the creeper 1st gear. There is a bone stock 720 with 18.4x38 Goodyear Traction Torques that places without fail in the top three everytime he pulls. Usually in the 10,000 lb class. The G and 70 with the way too fast 1st gear can't pull 8000lbs on a sticky track without stalling. Or as you were told before install a Robert's pulling cam, 720/730 heads with blended/smoothed bowls with three angle seats , 13mm 720/730 pumps & injector tips, straight stack and Albert's aircleaner conversion. Good for 75HP+ at pto rpm.

If u wanna go .1 mph go get u a 720 or 730 . If you have seen a G or 70 gas power out in the 8000# class then chances r they aint that big I pull my 70 in 2nd gear in the 8500# class and spin the crap outa my rubber. Bring a 720 or 730 to Ohio and ill send u home with the i just scr$#@d the bosses cat look on your face.

All "G"s are all-fuel tractors, and they share the same bore and stroke with the all-fuel "70", which is 412.5 CI. The gasoline and LPG "70" displace 379 CI, and the "70" Diesel 376 CI.

dear buickanddeere. i believe you should re-read my question. I have done this tractor over completely and HAVE ALL THE HP AND TORQUE NEEDED TO COMPETE. just wanted to know how others have done with the same model tractor using it on a weight transfer sled. also this is the first i have ever been one this site and at 56 years old dont think "sonny" is an apporiate reference to my question.

Well I'm sorry to have nailed you instead of the regular 15 year old wanna be who's Pa has a 70D. The 70D will squeeze into the 8000 lb class. The standards with the heavy front and shorter tires are tough to balance. Have seen them spin out at 1/2 rack on glazed clay before weight transfer from front to rear occurs. What track material are you puling on,which chassis, tires and weight class? You are not old enough for to be my Father by the way.

You really do not see many 70D pulling.. I don't really know why.. Usualy more 720/730's... I would rather have the higher gearing for MPH class pulling.. Mostly what has been decribed above most have had done.. bigger pumps and injectors... and the 730D head.. it flows better than the 70D head... Good friends have a 730D that we pull with that has been stroked to about 500 cubes.. but they only have a few runns on it..
Good Luck with the 70D... (I sure like my 70D standard.. but its on the heavy side... ) JDGnut
