I wasn't at the pull, but talked to a few people who were at a pull this past weekend where a Farmall M came apart, and almost toasted the driver. Seems that something came loose (thinking one of the welded rods broke loose), and parts went flying out the side of the block, etc. The pieces then managed to hit the carb, and apparently broke it off, sending a ball of fire back through the side shields, over the battery, and back accross the driver's legs. He bailed over the tire and escaped unharmed, but a lot of potential for a real disaster. Good thing for side shields or people in the stands could have been injured too as they aren't too far away from the track at this place. Just makes me wonder if some sort of shield enclosing the engine on the back side is worth making so that if something like that would happen it would keep the flames up under the hood. Also makes me wonder how good a roll cage is in that type of situation at the higher levels of pulling - if you had to unbuckle and jump out the front you'd be a lot more "well done" than if you can just bail over the side like this guy did. Thinking that a roll bar would be a lot easier to escape from than an enclosed cage.

We're from danville. The tractor is Jonathan Stine's - also from Danville. Actually there are 2 M's that go up and dabble in the 14,000 pound class at the west end fair - I beleive Jonathan's has regular M gears in it, and he can get down and lug in 1st with a 3mph pace. The other M is geared much slower, and runs some pretty mean R's to keep up with the 3mph pace. It is quite a site to see them loaded down for the class - weights everywhere possible - about 12 sets of wheel weights on each side. The higher RPM M pulled in the 16,000 class one year with only about 15,000 on it and took 3rd in the class. The track at west end is traditionally extremely hard - just leaves black marks when they're done most of the time.

It was in central PA - Buffalo Valley antique show in Lewisburg Saturday night. Same tractor won the 14,000 pound pace class 2 years ago at a local fair beating many 1066's, etc. Not sure, but I think it's either 7 or 7.5 " stroke and around 4.25" on the bore - ran pretty good. Does most of it's pulling within an hour of Lewisburg and has only been together for 2 years I think.

Never seen a M weighted down to 14,000lb. Is that even possible??? Have to put 4,000 on the front to keep it down.

I have to agree with you, I have a way bigger motor than what he is quoting and I don't like going above 7000lbs. There are all kinds of people out there.

you can't go much bigger, most i have ever heard is 5 1/4 bore and 8 stroke. and that would hold together less than 3 pulls

Well then it is nice to know you know how big my motor is. I will make sure I don't tell it that it isn't suppose to have lasted for the five years it has been running. If it knew that it might take a sh17 on me tomorrow. Since you seem to know so much, how is this possible to occur with out my motor just exploding everytime I start it up? I would love to hear your ramblings on how you are able tell me that my M is not bigger than the M that burnt up in PA and how I am able to defy physics and have my motor last as long as it has! Unless you were there when it was built years ago and or each year when we replace the bearings you have no clue you pompise @ss. So don't even try to tell me WHAT I KNOW!!!!! Unless you think you are man enough to step up to the plate, cause I am always in the mood to prove "KNOW IT ALLS" WRONG!!!!

You replace bearings every year??,My M is over 500cid and it has the same bearings in it for five years now,,and number of hooks are so many that I lost count,,Who built your motor??

We built it ourselves, of course had machine work sent out, but bearings are cheap insurance and if we have the pan off anyway to check everything else why not. It only takes a few minutes to do and that way we allows know how things are looking inside. As well I never have said we are professional engine builders just hobbiest like most that have FUN playing on the weekend.

It's getting to be a daily thing with you telling someone off or putting down a pull or a club. This is a sport and there is not enough money in it to not have fun. I don't know what is in your tractor, but I have seen it pull a couple of times. It is a very good running tractor, but it's not near as impressive as it should be for the way you talk. Why not relax, have fun, and forget about the trash talking. I respect what you have done with your tractor I respect the opinions you post on hear when they're are done with taste. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and nobody runs people and clubs down like you do on this page. Please remember THIS IS A SPORT FOR FUN, nothing else. Also, you should watch who you call a know it all. It seems that you have a lot to say about some topics just like anybody else that posts here. Good luck at the winter pulls and next season.

Will you are right, I do post my opinion when I am RIGHT and SURE about something which I am when it comes to you knowing what is under the hood of my tractor. As well the sport of pulling is fun and there are people out there like me that are always looking for a "GOOD" club or clubs to pull with that are in it for FUN not stroking each others egos which they know who they are. As well you probably pull with that group and is why you are taking such an offence to me. Trust me every time I hook to the sled it is for FUN cause if it wasn't I wouldn't be doing it. One last thing if you have seen me pull so many times AS YOU SAY YOU HAVE when have I not had a grim on my face and laughing with the buddies around me? But since you seem to know all and all about me and the inner workings of my M, I am sure that will be easy for you to dream up from you memory and share with all. P.S. it appears everyone knows me on here, however you won't even give a name or where or what you pull, so it is obvious who is the one with something to hide.

I have an M. I pull in tennessee, and if you want to come pull with me you are more than welcome.I personally guarntee if you abide by our rules i will walk all over you. We allow no cut tires and under 3.5 mph. I know with your BIGG motor you probably pull 6 mph or sumin like that but we don't, unless you run open(you don't want to run open here)....i really am in it for fun. we have less than 7000 dollars in both our tractors combined and for their classes are probably around here the best bang for your buck...ALSO what is funnier about going faster?

He won't come to pull where there is any competition. He likes to pull where he can walk all over people. Just the word from pullers that run against him often.

To whom ever you two are, I start in 4500 and run up to 7500 and a couple of times run 8500. So I am sure whatever weight you play in you could have the chance at bringing it to me. However no II don't travel out of state to pull but, may try tthis winter. As well to whom ever you "TIRED OF IT" as you call yourself, I would love to know whom you are getting your info from..... cause it is easy to make clames without the facts to prove them. As well when we pull we run with a group that we have to make sure we are all legal for from the guys with stock to the ones of us that are considered OPEN. So if a pull can accomidate all of us that is were we usually pull at. So I am so sorry to "TIRED OF IT" if I happened to have showed up with my buddies and we took some HOME TOWN glory away from you, but hay don't get mad cause you didn't win just pull better next time thats all. To Southern Puller, I never said you or anyonelse has to spend money or go fast to have fun, I may have said though I HAVE FUN WHEN I CAN GO FAST. So make sure you aren't miss quoting me as well. Atleast be happy I am not like most out there that would build up a motor and run the stock classes and swear it was stock. I make sure I run in the classes I belong.
