the unstyled g head was a flat head. but if you are using high compression pistons you need to have the head reinforced. i talked to a local machine shop and they put dowels in the head to reinforce the flat spots in the compression area.

I believe you can get a regular head to out perform it. the swirl helps with power too..and the heisler doesn't have the swirl.

a stock JD head is low compression, the hiesler head is high comp. and has bigger valves.

I relize that but how did they raise the compression is there a block cast into the head that sets into the cyliders or what.

I believe they're a "flat" head, meaning that the fire-deck surface is completely flat, with no cast-in combustion chamber. I think they're similar to the heads on the unstyled tractors, which were commonly installed on the styled tractors to boost compression without swapping out the pistons. If you're familiar with the "G", the unstyled "G"s had a cylinder block with an inch longer bore than the "GM" and styled "G". The stroke was the same, but the longer bore of the unstyled block offset the lack of a combustion chamber in the flat head. Installing a flat head on a styled tractor gives you the added compression of a flat head AND a shorter bore. The larger valves would improve air-flow slightly, as well.

So were my "maybes" and "I heards" right or wrong? You see, unless I know something for an absolute fact, I don't present it as one. But, like I posted, I "believe" I'm right. So tell me if I am or not. If I hear it from an expert like yourself, next time I'll KNOW the answer for a FACT and will post as such.
