Someone told me you'd be the one to get official info on the rules for the Tunica Pull. My question is: Can we bring our 930 Case? I have had several people question the year models of the 930 and did at one time myself. However, a friend of mine has a tractor history book that covers several years of testing at the University of Nebraska that reads 1959-1969 for the 930 Case. (830 also 1959. All other 30 series began 1960.) The book was written by Lester Larson who directed the testing for all those years. Also, recently I went to my local CaseIH dealer for some parts and noticed that their parts book reads "930 with 401 Diesel, 1959-1969." Then I was looking for parts on this site, (YT), and also noticed it says 1959 for the 930. Can we join the fun in Tunica?

I need to know, is your tractor a "Comfort King" tractor?

My dad says it's a Western Special. The stickers, (not factory), say Comfort King. ????? The old front end has been swapped out for a narrow front,(making it steer backwards), and the rear fenders have been "engineered" onto it from an 1175 Case. The wheels are pressed steel from a 1370 Case. We put the narrow front and the pressed steel wheels on it to lighten it up to just under 8000 lbs. We don't know who put the fenders on it. It would probably get down to 7500 if we'd blast off all the grease and grit and take the 3 point off.

Thanks,

Lamont

Is it a regular 930 or a "Comfort King" series.

Send me the serial number so I can see what year it was made. If it checks out as a 1959? or 1960 model then you are ok.

My serial # tag is missing. What difference would it make anyway? The series started in 1959. I'm pretty sure there will be some tractors there that are later than 1960. Could I not bring a 1961 Farmall 460, etc.?

This must be the same 930 I saw at Batesville, AR and heard all the talk about it not being a 59 model but I'm telling you boys the rule says the SERIES had to start in 59. Who gives a $#!? if the #s were from a 69 model. All this sounds like is the green is turning yellow. I talked with the owner of that 930 from Batesville and he said all that smoke was from the thing being worn out in the field before they started pulling it. Let them boys pull.

I know it's worn out. Just try to stand beside it when it's just sitting there idling. You'll choke! I'm not trying to be a bad sport. The last pull we went to, I invited a man to pull in our class who had a tractor with a 504 cube engine with a turbo on it. I just wanted the competition. I knew I'd probably get beat. He's always beat me before when it was in the Open class. After he beat me by about a foot, he tried to give me the 1st place trophy. I wouldn't take it because he beat me. I'm just saying let's be equal opportunity pullers. If there are other breeds pulling tractors that are post 1960, and there are, let's pull any series that started pre-1960. If the weight, tires, speed, and drawbar is legal, and the series of tractor started before 1960, anyone should be able to pull. My opinion. Of course I've heard about opinions to.

The 900 Case was built in 57, 58, & 59. The 930 was built in 1960, starting serial#, 8160001. It is too new for PRE-1960.

According to three published pieces of literature that I have seen the 930 was first produced as 1959. (1)The parts section of this website lists it as beginning 1959. (2)The parts manual at my local dealership lists it as beginning 1959. (3)The book, FARM TRACTORS 1950-1975, published by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, copyright 1981, lists it as beginning 1959 including a picture. The author is Lester Larson, engineer-in-charge of the Nebraska Tractor Testing Laboratory for nearly 30 years. What more information could be proof? Are there a lot of people scared of the 930? It just has a 401 cubic inch engine. It seems to me that three reputable published sources should override biased opinion of individuals. I'm just wanting to pull what we have. Some people don't have enough money to just go buy what they want. This is just an old farm tractor that we've had as long as I've been alive. I guess it's something sentimental to me more than anything.

I knew you weren't scared of it Krout. I don't think anyone should be. I just don't see why with three published sources showing 1959 as the beginning of the series that some people want to be so hardnosed against it. It's just a 401 cubic inch engine. There are a some tractors with that many cubes pulling in the 5500 lb. range. We're talking 8500 and up with an old greasy farm tractor that has the 3 point still on it and it steers backwards!! It's got so many things afro-engineered on it, some people call it Kunta Kente'. By the way. We've finally named it. "Bassackwards" I hope to have the signs on it by the Melborne pull on Oct. 25. I'm going to try to have my 700 finished by Tunica time. If I do, the menu that day is German Kraut with Deere meat, a little RED meat on the side, cooked in Oliver oil of course, watching just the end of Allis in wonderland and enjoying some M&Ms for dessert. The PTO on my spreader is working perfectly. I've noticed you got yours fixed too!

Dont worry,Ill have plenty of krout to go around,Ill save you a plate.
Respectfully,I dont think its the quality of the tractor or the engine size, these boys are concerned with, its the established rules in effect and the precedent.Mean Green Team is about the most LIBERAL of all organizations, I have been involved with. They are fair, equal,UNbiased and just a great group of people.I know for a fact you would not be allowed to pull:NATPA,USAP or 90% of the clubs and organizations, heck our club rules say pre 1957 (EDGE-Early Days Gas & Engine)so dont get upset about it.We dont care if you pull but some of your neighbors would let me pull my "newwer"tractor at Melbourne a few pulls back.I just fixed up the old tractors and have been beaten them ever since.
I am sure you aren't the 1st to want to pull a 930.I understand the arguement of the literature, but what about the contradictions?I am sympathetic to your circumstance,I was told I couldnt pull with NATPA because my hitch was off 3/16" and my wheels were 3/8" to wide (even after pointing out the factory getman stamps)I went home (5 hour drive!)and fixed everything to thier rules, only to be told they THOUGHT it was to new.I asked them if they had literature they told me"no" but someone had told them,"that knew" I emailed what little foreign proof I had to no avail. But I have since been learning german and now have volumes of documentation.None the less I have decided to concentrate on the 52 and 54 modles so noone can have an excuse!I have concentrated on these tractors that I have actual pictures, numbers and undisputable proof of and will introduce them in November.
Understand,I dont care if you pull.I want you to.I just want to share my experiences and thoughts with you.I do think with the date being, somewhat questionable you might want to pull in OPEN class. You were talking cubes, my 80 only has 311 cubes and I pull open.Just tryin to mediate.I want everybody to have fun.Oh,I found a salvage 600 for parts here in Mt Home, probably get it for 600-700, its all there just stuck and rusty.
I turned the PTO off,for a change.

Respectfully Optimistic Krout

Thanks for turning off the PTO. Good advice to. Do you think I will have any questions about my 700 being too new? It's a 1957. Do you know the people that own that 600 you mentioned?

Thanks for the help on the Tunica rules to! I'd like to try a bite of that Mississippi dirt. It always seems to be a tight, tacky track. I've never had a tractor on it. Just watched before. See you at Melborne on the 25th. By the way, try watering down those BIG loads of crap in your spreader. It's easier to unload!

I did get the message about the parts and was in the middle of sending you a thanks when my computer just froze up. Forgot to send it to you later. I have checked out Bettis Tractor Parts in Parkin and they didn't have what I needed but I sure got a wish list going from seeing what all they did have. I haven't checked out the other one you sent me. Thanks for you help. What size is the shaft on your spreader? LOL

Love from Aunt Esther, Shady Grady, Rollo, and Pops.
