JD Clutch engagment

My JD70 is stroked a lot and bored some. My question is has anybody else found that it can be fairly touchy to ride the clutch to make slow movements? My example is such as when trying to load it on the trailer going up a ramp. It needs a touch of throttle to stay running, but just as the tractor begins motion, the governor starts to kick in and things start to happen faster than desired. I'm wondering if I have an adjustment wrong, if I just haven't discovered the right technique yet, or is this a traight of the motor that I have to live with now? I know of a 60 that has a much slower low gear and it is no problem to feather the clutch on it. Is there any advice?

Todd-I use 3 concave washers under the 3 nuts in the clutch. It will stop all the jumping the clutch is doing. luckydog

just my opinion, but recheck your idle adjustmets. It may not be getting enough fuel or not enough to put it under a load when you idle it. Causing it to activate the governor. Maybe, maybe not. Hope this helps. Chads

a JD has a fairly responsive govoner(sp) and is easy to get jumping so to say. all I can say is to back it on so you cant flip it over..or....pull it on and just stick the clutch and leave it stuck....so it doesn't have a chance to catch a little.

I have a 70 and have had others, and yes they are kinda wild on the governor, I guess I would at least be glad it works , most hardly activate at all, especially the older ones, I do think that chad has a good point on the idle adjust, as this did help my dad's 70 alot, still touchy, but not as wild when loading, I'd try it some, if I remember right, I gave it more fuel at an idle.
