I live near Austin TX. I'd love to ge see a big tractor pull but I never see any advertised. Is the sport dead in this part of the country?

Hey Lee, The Big ones that you are talking about are gone. Sad to say it but it is the truth. We used to pull one of the big ones. A 1466 Pro Stock. That black smoke was nice. Pulled many of times in the Austin Col. Pulled in places like seguin, Castroville, La Grange, Fort Worth. It all ended in about 1992 or 93. I think the only ones still around are in Deleon and then up in Whiterite (sp)There are a few local guys around that pull modified tractors and 2 wheel drive trucksat these places. The thing going now is the Antiques. A lot slower but there are a few of us that are pushing the limits if you know what I mean. Maybe in a few years or so we could resurect some of the old prostocks if there were ever some open classes at the antique pulls. There is a pull in Valley Mills and temple coming up and on in Burton also. We just got back from Hondo and New Braunfels. This web site is good for seeing schedules. One of us local pullers usually post dates so keep looking.

i know this is not TX but in wi. we have lost a lot off pulls because the insurance is killing them and the things the ins. co. is calling for no one can afford the high rates.

Sorry we missed you! I just got home from a pull in New Braunfels at the Comal County Fairgrounds. They may be pulling again Sunday afternoon but I'm not sure, it's the last day of the fair.

There's a BIG pull in Temple, just north of Austin, I think next weekend. Do a search for tractor pulls + Texas, you'll find the Texas Tractor Pullers Association or something like that. They have a web site with all the pulls.

Having said that, I love antique pulls, but I'd like to see one like we use to have around Dallas with the big modifieds like the tractors with multiple V-8's and Allison or Rolls-Royce V-12's. I don't identify with those tractors as much as an old John Deere or Farmall, but they're sure noisy and a LOT of fun to watch.

I used to live near Dallas. The one "big" event that I went to was there, more than 20 years ago. I would also love to see the multi-engine pullers. I remember seeing a commercial with a turbine puller. I'd love to see that too.

I'll look for the one in Temple. I may not be able to attend. I'm in the National Guard and we may be having our first drill after a deployment then. (normally we know a year in advance when drill weekend will be, but this is a special situation)

Probably not, alot of the pulling information is by word of mouth, schedules listed in the pulling magazines, or clubs. Another good place to find tractorpulls are by checking the local county fair schedules also.
