Lightening up a JD B

Thanks in advance. I have a pure stock 1949 John Deere B that I am trying to lighten up for pulling. I have taken off the seat and battery case, made a lightweight bracket to support one of those "hang-ass" seats with the holes in, changed to a smaller 12v battery, changed to an alternator, replaced to a flat back but kept the PTO for a dyno, changed the hitch to a shorter hitch with a pulling eye, changed to pressed steel wheels with 14" wide rims and 13.6 x 38 tires, changed the roll-o-matic to the simple straight front end, removed the shutters, removed the oil bath air cleaner and replaced with an air filter. I now weight about 3600 with me on it (about 200# allowance for driver). What else can I do to lighten it up by 100# so I can enter a 3500# class? Thanks.

If your are serious, you can get a late style B below 3,000#.

I am serious. Last night I installed some 12" front wheels to replace the 16" originals. They allow this in the pure stock classes in our neighborhood. What next?

You could remove your generator assembly, and recharge battery between pulls. That will lose about 30-40 lbs, which is what I did. I have seen some of the pullers cut out the centers of the pressed wheels to lose weight also, also find a light driver for the light class. My 2 cents.

Sounds like all this tractor is going to be used for is pulling so you can remove rear hubs and weld axle plates for the 9 bolt press steel wheels
