M cutting out half way down track

I just put a zip tie threw the spring of the governor on my Farmall M to get it higher up on the RPM's. It did its job and the tractor it really running well down the track untill it reaches a little bit half way. Then it starts to spitter & sputter with fire coming out of the stack. It keeps going,but hardly. What could be causing this? Im thinking maybe the engine is burning the fuel faster then what the fuel line is allowing it to get to the carb since I still use the sediment bowl. I heard that these slow the flow down. Is that true? Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!! The tractor is still doing a pretty good job even with its problem. If I could fix it I know it would do alot better. Thanks! Jason

i would bet it is in your carb, i would have it
rebuilt or clean it out, or maybe even swich it
with another M carb if you have one...I would bet
this will fix your problem...Had it with my M..it
would run then kinda slow down and shoot black
cmoke and go off again..we fixed it with another carb

take your fuel line off at the carburetor and you should get quite a stream of gas out of it unless your sediment bowl is partially plugged. i have a sediment bowl on a 500+ cubic inch m and i don't run out of fuel half way down the track. the sediment bowl eliminator kit is a hand full of very high priced pipe fittings.

My sediment bowl is new and I do have a good flow. Are there any other adjustments that could be made to the carb such as drilling out the jets? Thank you for your time.

Are you running a MAG on this tractor?,if you are get rid of it!,they will cause a miss when they are getting bad,,,the way you discribe what is going on tells me that you maybe "leaning out" when ever your motor goes into a lean condition it will cause what you have discribed here,redo your fuel system get rid of the sediment bowl and have your carb checked to see if your flots are off axis and the screen that is in the carb its self isn't plugged,,,,,In high performance engines a "lean out" will be disastrous!!!!

No I am no longer running a mag. Got rid of that last year and got a distributor with electronic points. I don't think that anything would be plugged up since every thing is new or rebuilt over the winter. This problem occured the first pull after I made the governor adjustment. All the other pulls it ran ok. Im thinking it is running a little lean because it seemed that the temp gauge was a little higher then normal after the run. Thanks for your help.

Open up the large needle on the carb. that is closest to the governor or put a bigger ventura in the carb. Sounds like you are running a little short of air. Straight thru air cleaner pipe also helps with a 560 Donaldson air filter trap on it. Local muffler shop can bend you a piece of pipe to fit. Case-IH sells the trap. Good luck---deadeye
