Chad what do you seal your copper head gaskets with and what kind of surface do you require for the block and head? Should the torque specs and procedure be the same as with the stock gasket. Do you ever have any trouble with water in the oil?

I use a lock- tight product to seal my heads when i used a copper gasket. I get it at the local case IH dealer , asked for 5157 sealer. The stuff looks dark pink and will seal up to .010.My home made gaskets were leaking with the copper type spray, i used the pink stuff no problems in two years.

Pemrmatex, copper spray, or "Hylomar" from valco cincinati,, Randy Hall pointed Hylomar out to me, I remove the studs from the block, and clean and scrub all the carbon traces off the surfaces, the cleaner the better for a good seal, I spray all mating surfaces, both sides of the gasket and install the gasket on the block, I then install the head studs. Then the head. I have had 1 problem with the 4.25 with milkshakes in the pan, I need to reseal the gasket again I dont think I got it sealed correctly. Follow the factory reinstalation procedure, but no retourqe is required. Chads

You spray the head and block with hylomar or just the head? Hey how and when should you anneal a copper gasket?

Comments I have heard is that a major head gasket maker I won't mention uses to hard of a meterial for copper. Softer seems to be better.

My understanding is that if you reuse a copper gasket after it has heated and cooled several times from pulling it gets heat treated which hardens it.

Spraying the gasket helps but it should dry for a while otherwise the coating will press out more than it should. Hope this sheds a little more light.

It is a brush on application, It claims to seal a .015 gap!! The gaskets I have do not require annealing, they are soft copper. Annealing makes the copper soft, and is great when you clean it. Chads
