Jack your "G" should have a F-900-R in it which is a good cam, also I've got a 720 gas grind in my puller now that seems awful good,it's handleing a bunch of cube's. Gman

Hey Jack,

I take it you did not decide to part with your G. I added a Dengler cam which I have been extremely pleased with. His cam is in a few G's locally. I am not aware of any cams from Robert's carb but I hear they are good. A fellow puller added a cam from Vintage engine in his Dad's A that lugs very well. Drop me an email if you have any questions.

I actually saw one of Jerry's blocks in a G at the NY expo. A couple of dead give aways are the petcocks on the underside of the block, upper water pipe mounting platform is raised and shifted a little towards the rear of the block and the mounting studs closest to the side rails are replaced with allen studs. Part of the crank case had to be cut out on the clutch side to allow the sleeves into the case.

You know what it is like to fit a stroker crank in a case but he had just as much trouble with the block getting in the way of the cam, timing gear, and the case.

The latest prices are around 4500 for block, 800 for pistons/rings/pins, 1600 for the head/manifold. I understand Jerry was having some troubles with getting the pistons. I guess a block is being sent to a popular puller in the midwest to be placed in a already strong 70. You know how brothers can be with their 70's and A's

Hi Jack I'm no JD expert but I would call Murphy's Motor Service in Hallsville, Missouri. They make roller rocker arm's that effectively increase your stock
cams lift and duration. You should increase your compression ratio to effectively utilize going to a wilder cam. The ratio they list are 2.0 for a JD G, I hear they are excellent products. There phone number is (573) 696-3655. My JD source uses these exclusively on big cube JD engines.
