i guess i've settled on turning the old wc into a puller for my son. i've searched the archives for info. but not knowing much about ac, i'm a little lost and can't afford to make mistakes. i found a gleamer e engine complete. i take it this engine has larger crank that is supported with more bearings. does it also have the stroke of the wd45 crank? is the hot set up to replace the gleamer pistons with the wc/wd flattop pistons to get a higher compression ratio? or am i way off base? i have some basic specs on ac tractor engines but nothing on combine engines so the only info i will get is from you fellows. Thanks for any help.

You are on the right track with the Gleaner E motor. The specs are the same as a D-17 so find info on that and it will match up. If you are going to build it up the D-17/GE motor is a much better option and it does have the 4.5 in stroke to start from. There are a lot of fairly cheap options to get one up over 80 HP... I have a WD-45 motor I would sell that will dyno over 65 by the way.

The Gleaner motor will definately do you justice, if your club lets you run it. And yes putting flat top pistons does put out pretty nice h.p. You want your compression around 200 lbs. then you need traction. Like a 14.9-28 on a 14" rim and it will be a tough one to beat.
