V-8 INTO AN OLDER TRACTOR

Just back from the pull at Mt. Pleasant Mi.--watching-- have always wanted to put a V-8 into a farmall M or Oliver 77 or 88 JUST TO USE FOR MY OWN PLEASURE.
What motor is more preferred the ford or GM motor what all is needed to hook up to the trans is one tractor easier to work with than another--if not used for pulling will the rearend need to be beefed up??? thanks for any help and sugggestions.

Off hand I would guess the M would be the easy choice. Small block chevy or ford with automatic tranny coupled to the inputshaft. this makes a quick easy puller but to try to do work with would be more trouble that it is worth.
