450 lp head

How much difference is there in proformance between a 450 LP Head and a good 450 gas head? I've got about 75 horse out of my M with the 450 gas head milled a .150 thousands. I would like to buy an lp head but don't want to spend the money if its not going to help. I have the 4 1/4 m&w domed pistons, will the lp head even clear the domes? I'm not wanting to be real radical on horse power but would like to obtain 80hp if possible. Thanks for the help.

450 GAS @ 450LP TAKE ANOTHER 25 OFF HEAD AND REPLACE STOCK GASKET WITH 20THDS COPPER GASKET

4.25 PISTONS / HALF TO BORE THE BLOCK TO RUN LINER JUST PUT A GOOD 450GAS HEAD ON MY SM

I doubt you can bore an M block enough to put 4.25 pistons WITH sleeves in. I've heard it can be touchy boring for 4.125 (standard Super M size) pistons and sleeves. You can try it, but I would expect to run a block like this bored, without sleeves.

If others here have done it with success, I'd like to hear from you. I might take the risk this winter. Just for now, nobody will 'fess up to having bored an M this large.

I'm running sleeves in my M with 4 1/4's. But I might have had a good block. Also had a w-6 with them as well.

you should gain another ten horsepower with a propane head. you will have no clearence problems with m&w turbodomes.

Thanks Randy. If this is true, and I would love to think it is, I would be very happy. I guess one big concern is clearance with the pistons. Do you know if you or they mill the lp head? I sure don't want to mess one of those high dollar buggers up. Thanks

DO NOT Mill the head . A FARMALL head should never be milled to add compression . There are better ways to get up the compression ratio . These heads need all the strength that they have . You will have 195 to 200 psi cranking compression with the LP head . Be sure you run 110 octain gas after putting on the LP head.YOU should be pleased with the LP head . I have a 298 engine with the LP and it pulls good and never gives any trouble . It will pull 8500 lbs in first gear and is very competitive it will pull5500 in second if the track is not a real tacky track. GOOD LUCK DR SR
