Not sure what to do with my 50....

I use my JD 50 for work. I entered it in my first pull last Sunday and relized that I could really get into tractor pulling. I still want to use the old girl for work but I would like to pull her every now and then. I have antifreeze in the tires right now. Would it be a good idea to drain the antifreeze and use just wheel weights for work and pulling? Or is there some other way to keep the antifreeze and still make for a good show at my next pull? I can definately tell by taking the liquid out, adding weight and decreasing pressure this is the secret behind everything when pulling. Thank you for any help with this one.

I have a neighbor who decorates his with lights and puts it out in his front yard at Christmas . That's about the best application I've seen yet for a JD 50. Just kidding .We have a guy that pulls a 50 with us and does pretty good ..

GOOD LUCK DR SR

I have a 50 powerblock if you are interested. you could bore it out to 5.125, stroke the tractor a little and get 50 hp easy. If you are interested in the block, let me know, email me. you can strip the tractor quite a bit. the power trol, power steering, live power, air breather, ect.

I have pulled a 50 in the local club the last 3 yrs. I started out in the 6000 lb. class and found out very early I was no way going to beat a 'G' or a 460 IH etc. I took the fluid out and with me(200lbs.) on the tractor it weighs about 5075 (our rules allow 5,100). It has Power Steering, Roll-A-Matic and Live PTO which are additional weight. I have 12.4-38 tires and I want to go bigger(our rules allow 2 sizes over) so I'm looking for some 14.9-38's. My tires being under sized and some of our tracks being on the loose side, I mostly pull in 2nd gear. On a hard clay track 1st gear is what you want. I pull against M's , Super M's , AC D17 etc. so as you can see the 50 is at a dissadvantage power wise even in the 5000 lb. class. I think the only time they would'nt be is on a good clay track where you can use the slow 1st gear and not need a lot of power. I just saw a 720D out pull a Massey Super 98(Detroit) and an 820 in the 12000 lb class not because of power but because of traction and his slow 1st gear. Get your hitch up as high as allowed(20" here) and shove it all the way in to start with. If you front end comes up to quick you may have to modify your draw bar to shove it in further(our rules allow 18" from hitch to axle center)I saw one guy actually turn his around so the flat part was on the back and the bent part was up front under neath-you can shove it more forward that way with out the curved part hitting the support. He drilled a few new holes so he could experiment with the best length. When you done pulling unbolt your pulling ring, turn the drawbar around and you can still use it for farming. Get some wheel weights too. Take them off before you pull...put them back on to use if you need to.Hope this helps and have fun! You will learn a lot each and every time you pull!

Most of the JD pulling around us are using the 15.5's.. they are a little less footprint than the 14.9.. because the 15.5 are a little shorter.. but seem to work good.. and allow them to still pull in 2nd gear on some tracks.. The 14.9's.. might be a little too tall.. but if you can pull them.. get the 14.9's...
