Need to put a set of wheelie bars on a w-9. If we can't attach to hitch anywhere, there doesn't seem to be many places to attach to. I was wondering if anyone has put a set on a w-9 and if so how did you do it? I'm also going to cut off the spindles on the front and weld on lighter ones. I was wondering would wire welder with L-56 wire be good enough or should a guy go with a stick welder with maybe 6011 root pass and maybe 7018. Thanks for any suggestions.

First of all don't cut off your spindles. I took the spindle assembly out and machined the outer bearing inner race diameter back further on the spindle so I could install a five bolt trailer hub. You don't want to go to far but far enough so that you can utilize your existing spindle nut as well as get the dust cover on. The nice thing about this is you don't get far enouph back to effect the original inner bearing area, so you can reinstall the original hubs back later. Whelie bars are a little tricky but what I did was take a big enough piece of channel to cover your PTO hole and let it extend down far enough to build an adjustable drawbar support. Then I removed the hitch assembly leaving the brackets under the axles which gave me a good place to build my square tube wheelie bars off of. Another thing I did to remove wieght was to take the original rear cast hubs and plasma cut out the center just big enough to machine in the nine bolt pattern. This was the thing that helped me get the tractor down below 5500#. Good Luck

as far as the rear hubs, i know that the w9 has a splined axle, i have seen some w9's use a regular clamp on hub, may have to grind the key to match the spline. personally i'd rather see it done that way the tractor could be put back original later on if so desired. that is why i cant stand to see hubs welded on the axle, just my opinion.

#1. i'm not a farmall man, but willing to try to lend a hand to a fellow puller, is there a plate on the back for the pto(like a john or a case you can flat back them) i'd bolt up to that. #2 before i cut on the spindles, i'd see if i could cross refernce bearings around and change to an implement hub, or set up a fabricated light axle, as a collector and a puller, other than the engine, i kinda hate to alter a tractor beyond the point of putting back original, that is just me. my lai, had the original spindales, but went with an implement 6 lug hub, and looks cool with the 4x19 tires from an 8n ford. same approx. hiegth as 600x16, but lighter. good luck
