By now, you all are aware of the man in the tractor sitting in the pond in Washington. They say he has explosives.I really hope the police dont have to shoot the guy.He is making a mess of things, but the news people arent really telling what he is protesting enough. They would rather report the dramatics, like explosives.Id have to admit he was smart to pull out in the water like that.I just hope they dont kill him,and all ends well.your thoughts?

N.C. tobacco farmer who had his acres cut from 135 to 48.This so called tobacco buy out is a joke,i dont think these tobacco farmers have gotten much of the money, horse race track built near here with tobacco buy out money not a single tobacco farmer involved! One county built a day care for childern of people that worked for farmers? Governor froze money to balance state budget? Might be more of these tobacco farmers in pond!

For heavens sake man, he's driving a john deere, go ahead and shoot that fool.

P.S. Maybe they can get by with just shooting the tractor with red paint balls.

Well when your taxes go sky high when the Gov. quits making all that money of the tobacco taxes don't come crying. The Gov. makes more off the tobacco then it pays to all farmers for all crops.

you dont know anything about tobacco do you, the govement collects over 25000 $ in taxes , from each acre of tobacco grown, the tax charts can be obtained from your county ascs office, the farmer were cut 15% 18% in the last 5 years, and we just got a 11% cut for 2003, so if you took a 44% cut in pay in 5 years tell me you would like it, they do not pay , anyone to, or not to raise tobacco, the farms have a allotment just like the corn or soybean base, only you cant raise moore and raise your base, the us tobacco farmer has there tobacco tested for certain ,pestecides, and chemicals that are harmfull to humans, that argentena and brazil , openly use, go ahead a finish running out the american tob farmer, and import your poisioned tob,

Amen to that Brother But you lowballed the taxes. Four years ago the total tax take by state and federal government was 62000.00 per acre. This includes income tax paid by all involved and state taxes. My gross sales per acre is 4000.00. From every acre of tobacco I grow the company`s produce 123,600 packs of cigeretts. What do you supose they get for each pack? Even at 1.50 thats quite an increase on 4000.00 worth of raw product. Don`t you wish us farmers had it so good. Also the government does not pay farmers to grow tobacco and does not subsidize it in any way. Any costs the government has is passed on to us farmers and is deducted from my check by the warehouse. It is called the no net cost program, so there is no cost to the taxpayers what so ever. Each company is also required to pay the tax on the product as it is manufactured. RJ Reynoulds sends 5 million to the Federal Government each day. And they are not the largest
company. I guess I`am thru venting now, but I`am tired of being looked down on because I grow a legal crop, which by the way was the first product exported by the colonists in Virginia and helped to build his country.
