Guys JB is right on, as soon as you drop just a few RPM,s pull the TA back and watch her get a lot of footage that the high side wouldn't get. Love to hear that TA work. This I proved to myself on my 350 Utility last summer, I let it pull down quite a little in the high side and by the time the TA took on the low side we were all but dead stopped, where as the other times I downshifted as the rpm,s started dropping and it got another 20+ feet from what the high side would have gotten.
So keep up the R,s.
Best of luck to you both and thanks for helping keep this sport going.
Reminds me of a club memmber that turned 14, we asked him how many years he was 14 before he turned 14, as he had been pulling for 4 years then, club rules say 14 min, but this kid is GOOD, knows what he is doing and is very safe with trucks and tractors, yeah, Cody is a favorite of mine and not my son.

We pull a IH 400 and was talking to a friend who also pulls a IH 400. My idea on the TA is to pull it before you lose alot of rpm's (25-35%)so you can get out of the throttle a little bit (if you start to spin out) and still have some motor left if you need it. His way of doing things is to pull the TA just before he kills the motor. I've beaten him and have lost to him. The only way to know how to do it is to just give it a go yourself and see what works for you. If you lose, you can second guess yourself all the way home, just like the rest of us!

You should pull the T.A. back when engine starts to labor but don't wait to long because you don't want your RPM speed to be to low that you lose your momentom. Just my 2 cents worth. J B

I am also only 15 and from what i have seen pullin you need to shift when you hear a sudden increase or decrese in rpms. but this was open-gear pulling and would be diff. if pulling slow Jus listen to the engine

I let the rpm's drop below 1100 before I pull it
back.I found out if you pull back when the motor
starts slowing down it's real hard on the ta.
