I checked on an E3 motor, it is a D-17 motor and they want $1000 for it. If you oversize it to 4 1/8, you get 45-49 horsepower, with a WD-45 manifold. You can not fit a WD-45 crankshaft in the WC block because of the 1.5 inch longer stroke. You would have to grind it down. I checked on the piston kit and they are $450 cheaper than the combine motor. I'm putting in bigger pistons so I don't have to put so much money into a motor that may need an overhaul. Just my two cents.

I have a WD-45 crank in my WC and I did not have to do anything at all to make it work, just put it in and go. It is a 1945 year model

I am going to oversize my styled WC as well. I went to the Allis Chalmers catagory and within 10 minutes I knew I could fit 4 1/8 in it pretty easy. I am goind to use the gas piston. If you can find a D-17 LP head, that will jump the compression and get you more horsepower as well.

how can a lp head be higher comp than a regular head? My wc's and wd's are flat can't get any more than that. Higher comp, longer stroke,(wd45 crank, 4.5 stroke).quarter inch closer to the top, quarter in lower at the bottom ot

First off a D-17 crank will not fit in a wc block. The mains are a different size. Go with a WD-45 crank that will give you 4.5 stroke to start with. I have componets that will give you 425 cu in motor if interested.

Don is correct about the journals on the D-17 are .100 smaller. But a WD45 crank will do you the same. If it were me I would not put that money into a WC block. They were noted for splitting down the middle, unless you wanted to get it pinned. I think you'd be farther ahead to just go find yourself a Gleanor E combine and you'd have a 55 h.p. motor give or take. I've bought two of them, one I bought the whole combine for $300.00 and the other I got just the motor for $100.00. They were a much stronger block, "they weigh like 60 lbs more" and they got the big carb, intake, and better govenor. I'd rather see you build on a motor like that. Just my thoughts.
