Wd45deisel to gas

does anybody know if it is legal to take a wd45deisel and put a d19 motor in to run open class in NATPA or USAP.i have never seen one and would like to build one to pull open class.I think
it would be a strong tractor.

I know of a good running gas motor off of a C-2 combine, I'm not much on these motors but I believe its the same thing as a D-19. Just food for thought.

I think the little 262cid will have a hard time with the other tractors you will have to pull against... I do not know ifthe NATPA allows this.. but I think maybe in Div V... It will take some work to get more cubes.. there just isn't much inside on those engines.. There is almost no clearance between the rods and cam stock... Some people are running the Gas 262 combine engines.. (basically the same thing you are talking about.. run the diesel engine on gas.) The power cell system is a little limited on the diesel's.. The D17 engine and the D19 where about the same engine's.. except for the turbo.. (and I think the injection pump) I don't think I have helped much.. Good Luck

JDGnut you have done your research well. We figured about 360 cid was max on this engine.NATPA does allow diesel to gas conversion in div. 5 only. USAP will not allow any diesel to gas conversion. What is the story on Cockshutt engine that is a 273 ci. I think these engines were all made by Buda.

Not sure about the 6BD273.. I haven't seen one or a Cockshutt in this area. You can check out the Buda web site.. budaengine.com The 273 is a 3 3/4 bore with 4 1/8 stroke... Not sure if you could put the 262 4 1/4 crank in it or not. (like I said.. never seen a 273.) but if so.. it would be a good start. We have used the Buda Engine company for parts.. but took them all back, all the parts were there.. but nothing matched.. Like we got what was left over. Couldn't get them to return our money.. Finaly drove over there.. and exchanged the parts in person. They were way over priced, but they do have some of the odd parts.

The 262 crank will fit in the 273 block and I have heard that the block can be bored to 4."
But gets real thin between the cyl. and head studs. Good luck

I didn't look at the budaengine page.. but is the 273 a wet linered engine?? And what tractors had the 273 engine.. Just curious.. Thanks

It doesnt have sleeves. Its sleeves are part of the block. Only bad thing about them is there isnt enough room to really stroke them. You have to knotch the cam if stroked 1/2" over factory.

We built one of these four years ago. It runs great but not allowed enough rpms for Napta div. 5 to compete against 460 IHC or Ol 88,s. We might even sell engine or tractor any questions call me at 308 489 5466 in evenings.
