T/A in stock class

First of all I am only looking for how other clubs handle Torques in stock classes. I don't ask to start a brand war.

Are tractors factory equipped with T/A permitted to jump between the hi/low side will traveling down the track as part of a stock class. Non-NATPA classes just your home town association. I have been to some pulls where you have to decided which side of the torque you are going to pull prior to moving. I have seen some where it must be on the low side.

Just looking for some general information.

Our local stock pull allows any shifting(TA, powershift, etc.) as long as forward motion doesn't stop. As soon as it stops, your done. Many guys don't know how to use the TA properly and put it in low way too late--causing them to get power hop big time and then they hit the clutch.

i always felt if you think will need the low-side you can start there and not lose anything compared to starting in high and shifting on the fly-if its weighted right.(unless you are running lots of rpm and mph.)

If it was stock, then pull the lever back. Sometimes, you get them mad and they D.Q. you. just add 500 lb.s and beat them again!!!

Our local club allows T/A's to be used as long as forward motion doesn't stop. From what I've observed it doesn't help a whole lot.

At our stock pulls in West Salem, Ohio on Saturday rules state that "shifting is permitted as long as forward motion doesn't stop". Same tractor can pull in the Antique class on Sunday but shifting is not permitted. Driver's choice high or low side at the start of the pull. Just don't grab the lever (or knob or whatever) Check out WSTPA.com for complete rules.

Most of the brush pulls I've went to tell them to pick a side of the torque in antique low gear classes, but let them use them otherwise. Some say low side only, but what if the low side is out?

Most of the time I'm glad to see them use the torque in antique classes. Very few actually use it properly and spin out earlier than necessary. Really like the guys who are losing traction on the high side, then yank it back.

Don't talk about "brush pulls" in front of my uncle(fair board member in charge of the pulls). He will tell you in a stern voice we are pulling a sled, not brush. It is called a farm stock pull.

The pulls around my home alow them. To me if you are having a "STOCK" tractor pull why not let them be used?? It is a "STOCK part of the tractor!! I agree with some of the other posts. They might only gain a couple extra feet by using the T/A so whats the big deal?

i pull 820 an div 3 g. i have no problem what so ever with a ih using a t.a. if they use the ta's they don't have any excuses for getting beat. have a good day .

if the rules don't say first gear only, then maybe then they can shift. if it says first gear only, they should pull in first on the low side only.

Most pulls I have seen, do not allow them. Others are indifferent. I have a few tractors with the torque-amplifier and consider it no advantage in pulling exept maybe in a low gear stock class when you are running out of power. My tractors with the T/A are too new anyway. Just pulled them for exibition. (early 1960's mfg.) However when using my machines for field work, yard work, loader work, or moving snow, it is very handy.

Around my area they are allowed to shift once.I have not seen much benefit from doing this.From what I have observed,they shift down and immediatly rare up or start spinning because of the sudden torque increase.If mine had it I would try it though if it was running out of engine on the far end.

In out local pulls, we have a show of hands at the drivers meeting before the pull if we are going to alow the use of the TA's for the day. Most of the time they are allowed. It doesn't matter that much to me.
