I have 15.5 X 38 on 12" rims. I have cast centers, and wanted to ask some opinions on splitting the rim, welding in 2?-3? inch spacer.
Has anyone done this and would you recommend doing this rather than purchasing new rims?
Also, what is maximum rim width for 15.5 tires?

You might want to check the rules where you are going to pull, some places forbid useing rims that
have been split and a piece added in.

I've got a set of 13's that I split and welded in 2" to get to 15". It works great. It puts the outer edge of the cleat to the ground which is where you want it. I have a set of factory 15's but they came from a junkyard. They are VERY hard to find and most people want a hefty price for them. I would say split your rims or find another set and split them. If you have a set that is real rough on the inside, all you need to do is sandblast them well and then just put duct tape on the rim before you put the tire on. This will keep from puncturing your tube. It works b/c I have had a set like that for 3 years now and no problems. Hope this helps.

JS--I have 2 sets of 15.5s, on set on 14 and one set on 15 in rims. 14 is what the tire calls for but 15in rims the side walls come strait down for a better looking tire (Firestone F/R). 15in is my way.--luckydog

JS I have a set of 15.5's on 16" rims The rims are dual rims from IH tractor,They work well but I think a 14"rim would work fine,15" is probably the ultimate but I don't think anyone makes them, they probably have to be custom made.I bought my 16" rims for a good price and they were in great shape, never had fluid in them. maybe that would be you're best bet.feel free to E-mail me if I can help you. Hello,
I put 15.5's on my tractor this year, i was ready to cut the wheel apart and space it out.
I priced rims from M E Miller, and it was worth the money for me to buy new rims and keep my old originals rims for another tractor.
However there are a lot of tractors out there with widened rims and they work fine, just make sure you get them put together right.
The widest rims i have seen with 15.5's is 16" rims, however as you know they are recomened to go on 14" rims, and for me that is where they work the best.
Hope i helped
