You will be limited building it on diesel. They are not direct injection I don't believe. The 262 motor does not have a lot of room to add cubic inches either. However, with some work and money I think it could be made competitive in Division III. I know I would like to see one in the mix. A D-17 diesel would be something different. I have some more ideas if you are interested.

A D-19 diesel is a D-17 diesel with a turbo. I would check with some salvage yards to see if could find a manifold and turbo in good shape off
a D-19. Then turn up your pump as far as you can!
You should be able to get 80+ horsepower. Good luck!

My brother and I are running a U moline now. pulling in 4 to 8 mph. classes I was raised on allis chalmer tractor and would love to build a bad D17 looks like the 262 would be a better choice for the build. You see some bad 226 in lighter classes but I dont think there is enough room to build a heavier class tractor to run with the molines & olivers. We are not allowed to run turbos but I think we can run diesel coverted to gas any ideas would help

A 180 gas might fill the ticket - then
if turbos where allowed a 180 diesel
could be made to sing.
best,
