I'm rebuilding a G JD and have got to turn the crank. Would it be any gain in back turning the rod journals and using a 60 rod. The G journal is about 3.375 and the 60 is about 3.000 without looking but thats close. It is strickly for pulling with .125 over bore and high comp. pistons.Any in put would be appreciated. Thanks ken.

expect 5+ horsepower gain from offset grind. torque gain will be even more.

It's my understanding that the G and A/60 rod is the same length center to center (13"), but I've never measured a G rod. The crank will be plenty strong enough at 3" crankpin as thats what the big stroker G cranks are. Your compression should be in the 7.5 to 8.0:1 range which will get you some power. Go for it-it's only money. Mike

Are you going to offset to gain stroke??? The "60" rod is narrower??

Yes, i was looking at parts and comparing just wondering if it would work. That small amount of stroke may not do anything. I did see the 60 rod was a little narrower. I wish it did'nt cost so much to weld and regrind them. Thanks for your info and time, ken.

I'm not a JD man, but this makes me nervious. My gut theory is that a bigger journal is better than a thinner rod cross section thickness. I'd turn the crack. Keep us posted if this works. Good Luck.

There are G's running 9+ inch strokes reliably with 3" journals and A/60 rods. The rod is a little narrower, just have the machinist grind the journal to fit it. The rods are the same length and have the same wrist pin diameter.

I meant A/60 & G rods are the same length with same wrist pin.
