What to do with my G

I was wondering how far can you push HER with JD A rods or should I just push her with G rods. Your help would be greatful

You can off set the crank with A rods and get 7.375, or stroke it to around 8.250 with G rods and 8.375 to 8.500 with A rods. You have to grind alot on the rods or notch the cam, but you do not have to knock out the back case. If you want to go bigger in the crank-8.750 to 9.00 and bigger, you have to go with a off set rod, and notch the back case out.
At 10.375 and bigger you get to the point to relocate the cam. Around 11 inch you run into trouble with the rearend gears. Anything is possible, just depends on what you want to do with it, and your wallet.

You can go out to 8.75 with A JD rods. You don't have to knock the back of the case out but get into clearance problems up top. Any bigger and like bigmotors said you need offset rods. 4020 rods are popular. They give you the clearance up top but you'll have to take the back of the case out. Try not to go below a 3" journal though, that's where trouble starts.

I hate to ask-but-what do you mean by offsetting the rods? Also if the 4020 rod fits in the G it should fit in a JD A right. So how far can you push an A

On a G the rod journals on the crankshaft are approx 3 3/8" were they are 3" on an A. If a machine shop turns down the diameter of the G's rod journals equally nothing is gained. If they remove it from the front side/half of the journal, then you can gain about 3/8" total stroke. Because you have a 3" rod journal diameter instead of the 3 3/8", you are forced to run the A rods. When I looked into doing this for my G, Pittsburgh crankshaft recommended building up the backside of the rod journals with weld to maintain a larger radius fillet. I was looking a fairly hefty machining bill so I elected to pass on it.
