I belong to a pulling club in Va. that has a rule that says wheel weights only, a lot of the guys I've talked with have nothing aganst using suitcase wts. Others say it takes away the antique look of the tractors. Personally I think suitcase wts. look just as good as a stack of wheel wts three foot thick. I have yet to see a antique tractor with 2000 lbs. of wheel wts. working in the field. To me its all a safety issue. Loading and unloading our tractors is the most dangerous things we do, I think manhandling 150 lb. weights is the second most dangerous. There are lots of guys walking around with heart problems that don't even know it, handling these weights in 95 degree heat is a disaster waiting to happen, besides heart attacks, mashed fingers, hernia's, pulled muscles, bad backs, etc. All the clubs in these parts of Va. have this rule. I think its time to make a change. I like my tractors as good as the next guy but I also like my tractor buddies. I would like to hear some comments on this. THANKS

We allow hang on or suitcase weights in our club. We have just about stopped going to pulls that do not allow suitcase weights. We pull a 37 Case CC and NO wheel or suitcase weights were optional for this tractor. We have made brackets and have IH wheel weights and they allow that. I think safety items such as wheelie bars and safe mounted weights are more important than "looking original". I for one like to hang as much weight on my tractor and pull against the big boys and they are usually the ones fussing about us hanging weights but they gut tractors to get into lighter classes, so who wins?

This summer I traded 4-150# IH Wheel weights even for 8-75# suitcase weights! This swap now gives me 30-75# suitcase weights and NO wheel weights. Ruptured the 5th lumbar disc in my lower back over 30 years ago on the farm and 150# weights are no longer an option. My kids and I pull an AC WD, IH504 and an Oliver 1600 in classes from 4000# to 9000# and do believe that keeping the front end down is a safety issue! We won't pull anywhere that rules out a safety device!! (suitcase weights).

for 3 years now ,i have been trying to get our club to accept the use of suit case weight.i kept hearing the same old crap,"it doesn't look original",or "then i will have to go out and get some".you know what, when the farmer bought these tractors, most of them did not have the money to buy all those weights, they put a barrel on the back ,filled it with rocks, cement,or whatever they could get there hands on cheap.or they filled trhere tires with water.my farther runs ford wheel weights on his oliver.gee, thats original.he also runs18 wheel weights with center loaders on the outside of them.haven't seen him rake much hay that way.....go figure.i have walked buy and see guys struggle with weights, bust there buttfor what,30 seconds of massive high perforance excitment!WOO!!!i just saw a nother leaf fall...

I will have to agree with your guys. Suitcase weights should be allowed. I don't see where they take away the antique look of the tractor. I have yet to see a Stock Off The Shelf-Showroom pulling tractorat any of our pulls. But then again I don't think much of the 3.5 mph speed limit either.

Check my vote to allow suitcase weights.

We had a rule change meeting in April and tried to get out club in Florida to use NATPA class 1,2 and 3 rules. Alot of us want class 2 rules but those in charge would not listen to the majority and kept the wheel weight only rule. We don't like it like you but we're stuck for now.

I'm with you, Our club does not require stock wheel weights. I run with one set of front and one set of rear stock wheel weights all the rest are IH suit case weights. Even those are heavy and can make you break a sweat.
