A friend of mine is building a wc allis puller. I found in the grove a leroi 226 engine. I took the head and manifold off it and noticed that the head had a combustion chamber in it. Is this head any good? I,m under the impression that the allis head is flat? What rods and pistons do you need to stroke the engine 1/2 inch. Any other tips would be appreciated.
Thank you

With 4 9/16 flat tops pistons, about 12 to 1.
265 cyl. pressure.

Tell me exactly where do you find a block to fit 4-9/16" pistons? That roughly .560 over stock, do you know someone thats done this? I've had one 1/4" over but thats pretty far from 9/16.

4.5625 is old news anymore, there's alot of 4 5/8 out now. Yes, I know of four for sure at 4 9/16. And they have been running along time at that. Your sleeves run right around .105 thickness, in a WD block. At 4.625 and bigger, you should weld the sleeves in. I know two people right now going to try 4.750! About the time you think that's the limit, someone goes bigger. I also know of two 6 1/2 inch cranks. There not in the tractors yet. I'll put it this way- you could buy them really cheap about now!

The Leroi has two heads, check your head gasket - it should work. The cam out of a Leroi works good too. Find some big block chevy pistons 4.250, and off set the wd-45 crank a .250 inch. It's a cheap set up, and runs good for small wt. classes.
Good Luck!

Would the leroi engine have the same crank that the wd-45 uses? It appears to be 4.5 stroke. The manifold of the leroi looks almost like a header and the carb is a zenith and is bigger also. is there any of these parts that could be used?

Popular belief is a wd45 crank and D-17 pistons..... .....thi would work if you want a D-17 engine. Granted this will be quite a wake up for the little WC however I assume you want a semi-nasty pulling motor. You still will use the time honored WD-45 crank but use WD/WC pistons. The compression height of these is greater due to the reduced stroke the stoke engines have. Depending on the exact piston you use, the compression ratio is around 10:1. This will require high-octane fuel and attention should be paid to ignition timing. I have used the smaller WD/WC carb but removed the load screw to flow more fuel. A WD45 carb or a carb off a Gleaner 6-cylinder will really flow, but may require intake flange work. Keeping the fuel cool helps so if possible use a WD-45 Y manifold. If you have the time and patients, bowl blending and a mild or crazy deburring of the heads will help. Any competent machnie shop can install larger chevy valves. Anyway, I think you would enjoy the WD piston/WD45 crank combo.

Hey John what kind of compression per cylinder are you getting with that combo? Just wondering, I don't know anyone that's done it to talk to them.

It will depend on your camshaft profile and how you install it, that is straight up or advanced. Providing everything else is in good shape cranking pressure around 200 psi.

John, What head did you use with the WD piston and WD45 crank setup? What about valve clearance?
