WC allis modifications

I'm about to pick up a '48 WC allis that needs "some" work, I intend to use this tractor primarily for tractor pulls. I know I could change the engine or the internals to wd 45 stuff, and I may do this but that will be down the road a bit.
short of doing the above what can be done to help get more out of the stock engine, would a WD or WD 45 carb fit/and will it help? how much RPM can a WC take without coming apart?
I've noticed that most of the wc's, wd's I've seen used for pullers have racks for front weights, are these front weghts really necessary. I'm trying to keep the wc under 3500 lbs for the class I want to pull in. The pulls I go to don't have all the fancy rules I see you guy's have back east! About the only rules we have is wheel width must be stock, and no more than 10% over on the RPM. oh yea and they just implemented the 4 mph speed limit! we do run classes for 2499 and under, 2500-3500 and so on with 1000 lb. increments.
Your help is appreciated!

You can use the intake and carb off of a D-17 or Wd 45 that will help. They can turn over 2500 RPM stock no problems if you are allowed. If you are going to start modifying it I would go with a D-17 or Gleaner E engine..... You have 3 in main journals and a 4.5 in. stroke to start with. Let me know if you need some advice. I have put a few decent pullers together.

We had a fellow up here last year who always pulled with a WC. He wasn't from nearby, but he somehow seemed to travel to most of the local pulls. I don't know what he had in his WC, but you just don't pull in third gear with a stock WC. He did. On the occasions when the track conditions were right, he did very well - and walked over those in the 3000+ classes. As he kept pulling, others started to contest if the tractor was really stock. Of course, without a big commotion, nothing could be proved. Anyway, I don't see him pulling around here anymore. I don't know if the local "heat" got to him, or if he went on to other things.

Put whatever you like in the WC - if you will be pulling in modified. It just won't work in stock if you double the horsepower. People will notice. BTW, with the smaller tires, traction becomes an issue. You may need more weights than you will be able to add - when it comes time to balance the tractor.

You might look for a D-17 motor (which may be the same a s a Gleaner E). You will need a weight bracket on the front to compensate for bite on some tracks. Probably won't need more than 160# at most. Good luck.

I would recomend changing to at least a "WD" motor "not really that expensive" and I've seen some tough "WC" outpull a lot of bigger tractors with just that mod. And usually a WC will weigh right around 3000# stock which is nice for 3500# cuz you put 500lbs of weight on the wheels (if you have it). Then down the road I'd recommend finding yourself a Gleaner E motor and stuffin that in there.
