Here is a topic for conversation. If two valves are the same size but one has a 30 degree seat and the other has a 45 degree seat, which one will flow more at the same lift? Mike

I think some have been playing with 55deg.intake in the high performance field. Years ago IHC. ran 15 deg intake on RED.450 or 501 eng.I have found flow bench finding and dyno testing on antique tractors will make you use a lot of head gaskets.Earl in Illinois

Allis-Chalmers went to a 30 degree cut on there intake valves in the final version of their 226 c.i.d. engine. This engine was the most powerful
version of their 226. I don't think they would
gone with the 30 degree angle if it didn't help.

We talked to a guy at the pull last week, we happened to be talking about modifying a Ford 7610. He claimed among other things that an old stock car racing trick was to change the valve seat angle from 45 to 30 degrees, so he tried it on his tractor. He also claimed that he didn't notice much gain in power from doing this.

If all things are equal up to the seat angle( three or more angle valve job bowl porting and valve unshrouding)there probably wont be much difference especially at max valve lift. however ther may be a slight advantage to the 45 degree at low valve lifts just because of a better smoother radius to the valve seat.
