I'am looking for alittle input on a situation that has come up at our pulls? The members of our club all help out with the operation of the pulls we have during the pulling season. The majority of our members with the exception of a few people care about making the pull fun and safe for the members and spectators! Our sled is set to give the puller a competitive pull, while keeping it safe for all. There are a few members who think they know best , and set the sled to loose, putting everybody in jepardy. How do yall control your sled, do your sled operators pull?

We have several people rotate as sled operators, and they all pull at some point throughout the day. They try to stagger it so that they're on the sled when they're not pulling. Our sled is self propelled on an old dump truck frame. In the light classes the front wheels of the truck are still on the ground to take weight off the pan so that the tractors can get the sled moving. If the sled operator does a really bad job of following it can really screw up someone's pull. Some drivers have learned that if you know the driver doesn't follow well you need to square up with the sled and stay that way down the track - no sense fighting it. Some operators are better than others at following the tractor on the track as it is pulling, but I don't think there has ever been any intentional misques - some guys just run it better than others.

We have one guy who is basically the sled master and spends more time than most in the sled (he also did most of the designing and building of the sled). He sets it up for most if not all of the classes. There's a few other guys who know how to change the settings, but they rarely do. I don't recall us having any major issues with sled settings, and it is probably because one guy makes the calls on it so there's not much of a committee decision to be made.
