Can I run a 400 chevy piston a over bore sleeve and a 4.5 in crank out of a wd45? Is there a better piston to run like a mopar piston some one had told me to use a mopar piston out of a 440. Any help would be great. Thanks

i would use the 4 1/8 wc flattop pistons with the wd45 crankshaft. i had a wc that had that setup and it has good compression and it starts just find. it was around 60 hp. i sold it and built a wd45 with the flattops and it runs great. it is hard to beat in the 5000 and 5500 lb class.

JD plowboy do you know how much the piston liked being to the top of the deck with that setup . Never really knew the piston pin height of stock pistons.

not really sure about that. my wd45 is 3/8 inch from top of block.

Not knowing how many cc,s the dish in the piston is makes it harder to figure the compression ratio but if its a true flat top with no dish .The ratio would be 11.7:1. not to bad but i would want more especially with the little stroke the added compression would be beneficial for better torque numbers.

If you want to use a WD45 crank you would be better off using the rods and pistons to. The flat tops might give it a little to much compression making it hard to start.

How about if I put a stock wc piston back into it with a wd45 crank will that work and make good power? Thanks for all the help guys.

jay measure the distance from the top of the deck to the top of the piston at top dead center. then add .250 thousands if you go to the 4.5 stroke instead of the 4 inch to it and youll know how high it comes and you can mathematically equate youre compression ratio

I would look close at a 413 chrysler piston silvolite part no 1272 d .It has a 4.188 bore 2.023 pin hieght and a 1.094 pin size.

Don,t used 400 chevy pistons with 4.5 stroke crank compresson height is to short. best piston will be stock WD45 flat tops with 4.5 stroke crank. If you are going to have the crank stoked to about 5.75 and change the rods also the 400 chevy piston will be the way to go.
