Hi Ken this is Loran Rygh. I am refered to you about getting more hp out of a 70 diesel. The tractor is stock outside of adjusting the fuel rail a bit. Wondering how to get a few more ponies out of it.

I have seen people put a straight chrome stack on the breather, then they put a rain cap on it with a pin and cable routed to the back. Cable pulls pin, rain cap closes cut off air supply kills engine. I have seen that set on several JDs and other diesels.

On a gas motor it is easy ! You just wire to negitive side of coil and ground. On a diesel they take air away from the motor or a iginition cut off. [ i have never put one on a diesel]

I'm all about putting a paper element in the factory air cleaner and doing away with the oil bath. I looked into putting a K&N in one a few years back but never found one to fit. I had access to all the books and and what was on the shelf of a large speed shop.

I like the look of farm stock but ended up putting a nice K&N right on the carb.

We dynoed it with the air filter right on the carb and on differnt lenghts of tube to see if there was a torque change or HP gain !

In all the hours spent trying to see a positive or neg to this idea we just ended up putting it direct.

In short those air filter kits they sell that come with a length of tube that says it improves the speed of the intake charge and the torqe " save your money".

I went as far as having my dyno calibrated and certified and that has to be redone every year to keep my ceritification.

I wired a Kill switch into the dyno that i can hook to any gas tractor in case for some reason one dropped into gear.

Good luck and do let us know or post some pics if you come up with a filter for the factory oil bath.
