I've used 2" wide nylon webbing (the yellow stuff) for that. If you want something more original, try to find some jute webbing used in furniture seats. I think that's what the original material was that AC used - at least it looked like it. You might try a place that sells fabrics or supplies for furniture upholstery.

The material that was on my '42B wasn't thick at all, except for one piece towards the rear and under the tank which was obviously a thicker, canvas material which was still in good shape so I retained it there. However, that which was under the forward portion of the tank and between the hood and tank was fairly thin, just like the material used in furniture seats. I believe it was original since the tractor has been in the family since it was new and I doubt that Dad ever changed it.
