I`m working on a Farmall 460 which is coming along nicely.I`ve been trying to figure a good way to do the model designator emblems which are a stamped aluminum piece with a red painted background and raised numbers in what seems to be just bare alum. The emblems are perfect except the red painted area needs painting.I`ve thought about masking or painting with a brush, but am not enthused about either. If I mask,I figure I would have to make very accurate cuts in the tape to get good results.Has anybody done one or have a good idea?

We restored a 560 a couple of years ago and actually painted the whole emblem red when we painted the tractor then took a Q tip, one of my wife's triangle make up sponge and some thinner and removed the unwanted paint. You need to do this when the paint starts to get tacky. Then cut some of the heads off the Q tips and dip the stick in black paint to get the small letters painted below the 460. You can check out a picture of the tractor on this site in Tractor Photos under 560.

We just did this on our 706 and will do it on the 460 we are painting. The best way will be to tape it off and spray the paint on, if you use a brush I don't think you will be able to get rid of the brush marks. It takes some time to tape them off, I used 2" tape to tape off the whole thing and a razor blade to cut out what I wanted to paint.
