Hi
I just recently purchased a ten gallon tank blaster. Up to 25 cfm at 145 psi. How good of a job will this do for me? What is the best media to use for tin work or large iron pieces. I am restoring many case tractors and a case combine. There are so many grits of sand glass etc.. to use what will be the best? Can I catch strain and re use. Any help from you guys would be great. Thanks much.

I've recently gotten in to blasting as well... I've been using a product similar to black beauty but instead of coal slag (black beauty), I've been using a copper slag... the two products look nearly identical, but there is a difference. The copper slag is a bit more aggressive... both do a great job! If memory serves, I think the "grit" is referred to as "30/60". You can definitely reclaim the abrasive... just be sure to sift it before re-use. The 10 gal/25 cfm will be a bit slow, but will get the job done. I started with a siphon blaster & 27.5 cfm compressor... got impatient and bought a 650# pot & 175 cfm compressor... now we're blastin'!!! Have fun with your resto's!
Regards, DL

Just bought a blaster myself so I know where you are. I went to my local concrete block dealer and bought Black Beauty media. Get the FINE grade. I originally bought Medium but found that it would plug my 3.5 tip. I bought 3 bags of the stuff so instead of lugging 300 lbs of blasting media again, I bought a larger tip for my blasting gun. I found that the medium flowed freely thru a 5mm tip however it takes LOTS of air. Fortunately I have plenty of compressor volume and can pretty much blast continuously but if you have a smaller compressor I would suggest the 3.5mm tip and fine media. Oh btw, be prepared to prime the parts as soon as you blast or they will rust.

About the priming. Do you clean the metal with anything right before priming? If so, what do you use?
