Having "red" several inquiries regarding preferred paint stripping meathods, I thought I'd share what I
don't think I've seen mentioned here before. If you own an angle grinder, there are relatively new wheels
available specifically made for removing paint and rust. They are best described as a Scotch Brite pad on steroids. I found them to be extremely aggresive, and made quick work of bringing both sheet metal, and cast down to bare metal quickly. They will leave swirl marks on sheet metal, (you can actually gouge the sheet metal if you're not paying attention)but follow up sanding and prepping made for a nice job. Plan on picking up several because the abrasive material does wear, but I think the cost is well worth it for what they do.I found them at our local Lowes home center for approximately $10-12 ea. under both 3M and I believe the name was Gator Grit.

You can also get wheels for an electric drill (also 3M, don't remember the name) that do about the same thing at a lower rpm, will also scratch the metal, but won't gouge. I used 4 or 5 of them at about $9 apiece last time, so it can get expensive. probably took two to do a hood.
