Hi Folks,

I have a trailer that is made of galvanized metal. No rust, but looks kinda ugly. Is there a way to paint it that won't peel off? I remember the older ford trucks with the galvanized cowls that ended up naked. Just looking at brushing something on. Will rustoleum work, or do I need to prep it somehow?

Thanks, Dave

If you have a PPG or Dupont paint supplier, or Valspar for that matter, they make an epoxy primer/sealer that is a "self etching" or non sanding primer which is used on automotive applications. (I don't know much about Valspar though.) The metal does have to be cleaned and prepaired though. The guys at the paint store can tell you for sure if it can be used on galvanized metal and will assist with further details. I'm sure that it will work though. I have a Ford Econoline pickup which is apparently galvanized and I intend to use it on that vehicle. I use it on everything where the metal is bare.

A good cleaning, a bit of scuff pad, galv. metal primer then ordinary paint. Easy
