I normally use the TCF Industrial John Deere Green enamel from NAPA and have had great products come out of it. If I made a mistake and had to reshoot, all I had to do was scuff the paint and reshoot.

I decided to try the John Deere Green paint from the dealer. I had a run in one side of my tin, so when it dried, I sanded out the run, scuffed the remaining paint, and repainted; however, the paint immediately showed signs of cracking/lines in the paint. Why did it do that?

I assume I will have to resand, reprime, and reshoot with the John Deere paint.

Bob

You found the dreaded closed window. Not wet enough and not dry enough for recoat. Oil paint has a huge closed window period.

Circus and soundguy are right on. Your first paint is still soft underneath but has a crust on the top. Your second paint's solvent is attacking the crust and fracturing or "lifting" it. You will probably have to strip it now. Guess we've probably all been there. Painting is one area where "quick" and "quallity" are not good bed partners. The longer you are in it the slower you get! and smarter!
