Some people want you to work for free I have a friend that just restored a 40 8N looks like new . All new sheet metal except grile , complete engine overhaul, new cam ,sleves, pistons, rings, bearings, water pump, dis & coil . new tires, rear wheels, over hauled Trans, rear end, new brakes, Hyd pump, cyl , new draw bars, sway bars, & lift bars . He had $3700 in tractor. not including his labor . He set tractor in yard with FOR SALE sign for $4500 & everone that looked at it offered him $2300 to $2700 for it . He parked in out building & told me he would use to haul Horse Crap with before take that for it . I will take picture of it & post on net . You could SHOW this tractor .

Wow.. I'd love to see a 40 8n.. since that would be about 7ys before they produced them. He should asked more for it.. as rare as it was (GRIN).

For expo quallity paint with top products--$45 hr.....Body work and prep work $35 hr. People who want the best are willing to pay , the others do it theirselves. There's not much in between.

thank you very much. I have been doing a few M's 8N's and such recently I have done some extensive work on a Case 7150 Magnum and the Said Jockey farmer seems to think that 500.00 dollars is a lot for 65 hours labor on fiberglass repairs (I am talking basically totally rebuilding fenders and side panels) Priming, blocking, priming, blocking sealing all with PPG products. The only thing he supplies is the CNS case paint (garbage)and he gets a peel free mirror finish on the complete tractor. I have now tried to cut ties with him, but insists I do the work for him. I have now told him just take it to your authorized Case dealer

I would have gladly paid you $500 to have done mine. I would have paid a lot more now that I know how much time is involved. I think $20 an hour would be more in line. At least I might do it for that but it aint going to be no mirror finish.

If you did not establish a price ahead of time- ..... ..why is it the 'jockey farmer's problem? Granted, a good painter should be worth more than that..... .

You see the problem here is that he has got his own croneys doing body work and painting as well. This particular tractor was quoted and then brought to me. While in the process of painting this tractor more and more parts began to appear. Some with orange peel so bad you could have used it for sand paper. Some parts had fiberglass repairs that looked as if somebody had thrown a softball sized handfull of tiger hair at it. Oh and dont forget the three huge smiley face runs across the hood. Well when it came time to pay he figured that there was no way that I could have had all that time in it, because it just needed to be cleaned up a bit. Oh well it does not matter I have took my lumps and lets just say he will be frequenting his authorized case dealer a bit more often.

I don't know a single body man/painter who would work for less than eight dollars an hour. Have him price new if the repair was too high for him.

I'm a lic. body man from canada I charged my brother in law $1,300 to strip and paint a b tractor and he bought all the materials. It's show quality. Don't work cheap, if they send you something they hacked up charge them $60 an hour. Send him down the street. People don't relize the work that goes into body work and painting
