Okay I figured it makes more sense to start a new thread than to keep adding to the other one.

Here is what I did to my allis G. I buffed the hood, fenders, front engine cover. pretty much the flat stuff.

after painting with ppg's concept (urethane) I wetsanded the color on the sheet metal pieces to about 1200+ grit. Then I buffed with my dewalt 7" buffer (I think it's 7). Using a wool pad by schlege model p-2 wool 175-C 1" with 3M 06062 perfect it 3000 rubbing compond. I slobered it all over the place and ended up getting it all over my clothes. I think it was at 1400 rpm. just trying to float along the top, not a lot of pressure. I then switched to a 3M 05738 foam polishing pad and 3M 06064 perfect it 3000 swirl mark remover to finish it off. I think the rpm's were 1800-2000. More slobering.

I feel that the buffing is bringing my garage paint job up towards a spray booth quality job. For me I didn't feel that buffing was that difficult to do. Well worth the effort.

I don't use wool for anything. It's way to easy to burn stuff up. I find the Meguiars W7000 red foam pad works really well with 3M Perfect It 3 Extra Cut. I buff lots of clearcoat and some Concept. Single stage colors never buff as easy as Clear because of the pigments. Concept should be harder to buff than Omni because it is more durable. I have never buffed Omni but I would think that the next day would be too early. Concept on the other hand should be buffed the next day or it will buff like a rock.

Thanks -- what you did is what I basically do. I may have to go to wool pads initially. The most agressive product I use was designed for wool, does not work too well with foam. I will guess that Concept will buff better than Omni, since it is better paint. Might use it on my next tractor if I ever get this one done. I can do the large parts easier than the small ones. The small ones are a pain because of all the edges, even though I have a 3.5 inch buffer for them. There does not appear to be any way to get the dirt out of my paint. My booth is sealed, I have tried several different kinds of filters, different air flow, etc. So I just have to come up with a buffing system that works. I might need to let the paint cure a couple of weeks, it seems soft, which means it won't buff well. Not sure I buy the fix mistakes thing the next day with Omni, recoat yes, buff no. Thanks for the info, might try the 3000.
