Brian,

Don't forget the 15 minute induction period before application. That's something that is fairly new with the 170.

Brian,

An induction period is the time between mixing of ingredients and actual spraying. It's a time for the chemical ingredients to "cook" a little before using. Here's what you do:

1. Stir the MP170 epoxy primer well before mixing with the catalyst. You don't have to stir the catalyst.
2. Mix 1 part of MP 170 with 1/2 part MP 175 catalyst (2:1 volume ratio).
3. Stir well immediately after mixing.
4. Let sit at least 15 minutes. It's not that critical. 20 or 25 minutes will be fine also.
5. Stir well again.
6. Apply to part.
7. Don't mix up more than you plan on using that day. Once mixed, it has a usable pot life of 8 hours. After that time it really should not be used at all and whatever is left is now waste. The next day it will be like jello anyway. That's at 70°F. If you are much warmer than that, I'd shorten that usable time. There's no hard and fast rule but if I were at 90°F, my tendency would be to use it up within 4-6 hours.

It's important that you obtain the manufacturer's technical data sheets (P-sheets) for all the products that you plan on using. There is more usage information on those sheets than you will find on the can labels. The sheets are available from the manufacturer's website. CNKS gave you a link to all of PPG's sheets, which includes the one for MP 170.

P sheet says 30 minutes at 70 degrees. I have probably cut that a little short sometimes on small parts.
