I just bought a Satoh 650G tractor with very low hours, but do not have any info on it. The engine is very cold blooded and stalls easily if not allowed to high idle for several minutes or more, is this common? I have heard that the carbeurators run lean as well. Is there any fix to the cold bloodedness of the engine. I would like to be able to start it and move it out of my garage to let it warm up if possible. What make of engine is it. I have taken the carb apart to clean it, reassembled it and it seems to work correctly. It is a very complicated carb for a tractor. Any suggestions or general info/knowledge about the tractor would be apreciated?

James,
The Satoh 650-G is a cold runner. I've had one for about 7 years. It likes to warm up, as far as the carb it needs a litte playing with but will run strong, most engine accesories I've found for the motor were in stock at NAPA auto parts. The satoh is a Mitsubishi tractor. Mitsubishi/Satoh was aquired by Cub Cadet on or about 1993 thereby ending the Satoh line. You can get parts for it through Stull Enterprises Inc. located in Coraopolis PA. (412)-262-1405, or R.M. Wade 1-(800)-547-8311 (Westcoast). I have purchased parts from Stull when unable to fabricate my own however have found that you will pay premium rates. I purchased a parts manuel and a repair manuel from them in 1996 for $60.00 each. I thought for that price they would be new, however I received photostatic copies in a cheap binder of fair quality. I guess when you own the market you can do what you want. The tractor is dependable and will run well if cared for properly. Good luck.

The tractor has a Mazda PB 987cc engine. It was used in Mazda cars late 60s - early 70s and in the Satoh 550G and 650G tractors. It would be useful if you could find a dealership that used to sell the Satoh, borrow their service manual and Xerox a copy.

I had a neighbor who had a Satoh with carb problems and he found out that carb parts for that very complicated carb are VERY expensive. Sorry, I don't recall where he priced the parts, and I moved away from that area.
