my brother has a leyland of unknown year model. the carb is a zenith in terrible condition. the leyland catalouge part no.akm 43 shows two likely carbs that might fit.carb.assembly part no. 13h5169 for a 1622cc engine or part no.13h 3301 for a 948cc engine. the engine is 4 cyl. and i'm sure the tractor is a 154. how do i determine the engine size and the zenith carb. MODEL not just the part no. to fit the engine once i find out what size the engine is ???? Any info. will be greatly appreciated. We have been trying to fix the current carb. for several weeks, without much success, and would really like to get the old tractor running.

Steve,

We have the Zenith parts for your carb. The carb itself is no longer available, but a gasket kit, float, and the jets are. Give us a call at 1-800-900-7224 and we'll try to help you.

By the way, Keep WOODBEEF's address handy; he knows a heck of a lot about Leyland's!

In my experience, I have found that "any" carb seems to work equally well on any other application as long as the bolt-up location to the manifold fits. Mind you, you hope that the throttle, choke, etc. lines up but even that can be changed on a carb from another tractor or another brand of carb with a little workshop time.

Post this question over at the Leyland board. The people that run it also supply parts, and manuals for BMC,Nuffield,Leyland and Marshall. They could probably even get you JWD parts if you had a need for them.
