We have a 1940 Silver King four wheel model 380 that was a highway mower tractor. It has a power takeoff shaft and I think I would like to remove it if it's not to much problem. Anyone know what it takes to remove this shaft? Please e-mail. Thanks, DeWayne

I removed the pto from my r-44 and had to open up the gear box and remove a cotter pin which went through the shaft and a coupler sleeve. so, if it does not come out with the slide hammer easily, check inside.

Thanks everyone for your help. The cotter pin had been removed or never put in. Once the back bearing started to come out of the rear housing the shaft slid out easily. I made up a cover out of plate steel until I can find an original. Thanks all, DeWayne

Take out the bolts and pull. The hard part is plugging the hole.

Thanks Larry, that's the same thing that nubbinhead said. I may have to use a slide hammer to remove the shaft. It seems to be stuck after 60 years. I didn't know if it was secured any other way and didn't want to wreck anything. Thanks, DeWayne
