Hi, has anyone come across any Leyland 2100 or 4100 tractors? I found the well picked carcass of one in a wreckers yard in S.W.Ontario about ten years ago, and no one I've met out here in Alberta has seen another on this side of the pond. I know they were very unreliable when they came out in the U.K; and were not in production for long. Did many make it over? Regards, Herb.

they wer'nt that bad! we used to have one. pulled as well as any john deere of similar power. the engine itself was very good and reliable, but build quality of the cab and axle left something to be desired. very few were shipped to america, they were not really made for export. great tractors, leylands are! and marshall's later on!

Herb,
The 2100 was a fantastic pulling tractor but was basically best on PTO work or drawbar pulling. The lift was the problem. It was designed for a 30 hp tractor and was not good enough for the increased power. The design of the lift transfers weight onto the rear wheels better than any modern tractor. The engine would not give up, the wheels would not slip then the weak point was the third link and depth control spring system, out this used to come like a dentist pulling teeth. On one occasion a farmer I know was ploughing with a big plough when all of a sudden the tractor shot of up the field. He looked back and the complete lift, from just behind the drivers seat was sitting on the plough some yards behind him.
regards
Brian

I heard that there were 20 brought into Ontario and spread around the province. Also heard it was pennyante engineering because they had the same rear end as a 270 and the 345ci Gold Comet engine which was put into every third truck and bus in Britain. Same fellow told me his brother had one out for a demo with a 20 foot cultivator. Started down the field at 3/4 throttle, then dropped the cultivator, went about 50 feet and bang went the rear end. Really strange because Jerry's garage in Alliston used to put the same 345 engine into 10-60 Nuffields, called them a 10-90, and sold them to the potato boys who worked the crap out of them on harvesters and irrigation pumps. They ran and ran, that was more than 35 years ago.

I Have 2100 leyland tractor,it has been a good tractor, we are rebuilding it now, or restoring it as some would say, we are installing a new engine in this tractor. We will price it as is or rebuilt. we have done the traney, the engine is next. the tractor has about 7000 hrs on it. I know where one more is, it also has been rebuilt.
