A question for owners of Magnatrac owners. Do the small machines really able to do what the advertising and the Struck web site claim? I would like to hear from people that own one. I am thinking of buying one. But I dont want to make a costly mistake. Thank you for your time.

Hi Guys,

Here is a group follow up. I am planning to buy a new diesel Magnatrac this spring with a loader, backhoe and blade. Struck just came out with a diesel version and it really looks nice. Last year I contacted Struck corp and asked for a name of a local owner and they provided a name and phone number of a guy about 50 miles from me. We went and looked at his machine and he let me drive it and move some dirt. He loves his machine and gave me some good feedback.

I could buy a used JD450 with a loader and backhoe for half the price of a new Magnatrac but if you have ever driven a JD450 and a Magnatrac there is no comparison. I have also looked at new JD skidsteers with wheel tracs and a backhoe but, that would cost about $7,000 more than a Magnatrac and you have less power as a skidsteer does not have the raw power since it not a true dedicated trac system.

Someone mentioned that they were looking for a used Magnatrac, I know of two of them one for $17,000 and one for around $15,000.

Last thought, since we all have Magnatracs on our mind and might benefit with further discussion, should I set up a free discussion forum and we could message back and forth?

Regards,

Rick Neumann

Don't know about Magnatrac, but I have an AgraTrac of similar size and power. It is an effective machine for it's size, having been used for pushing around loose soil and sand with ease (the equivalent of having 6-8 guys with shovels) and skidding fairly large (4' dia x 15-20' long)logs to a portable sawmill. In the late sixties, one was observed doing finish trimming in subway tunnels for San Francisco's rapid transit system. No D-9, just small but mighty.

I was wondering if any information is available on the AgraTrac. I am interested in compact crawlers and would appreciate any info you could give me.
Thanks, Greg

Well I can tell you that I was skeptical at first too thinking what kind of power can a 25 hp gas kohler motor have. But after buying a used one about 2 months ago I haven't stopped being amazed at how much this has been able to do. I don't know where to begin but will try. You can't beat the traction this baby has in anything until of course you bottom it out, or anything out, but with my backhoe I just pick myself up and move to a better spot. This was found out when I took it right in the middle of my swampy area which is springs feeding on top of clay and started digging out a small pond(in clay). I have dug out tree stumps, dug with the front loader mounds of soil that has been sitting around for years, grading my driveway and other grading, and talk about moving snow with ease this did it. I could probably go on for awhile but will cut it short. But being just a beginner I can't really give you that much but just a sample to get by. If you requested the literature from Struck and have watched the video you will get a feel for what it can do but remember that this is a baby compared to the full size crawler or backhoe which makes it even more fun to operate. Like I said I have only had this a couple months and have found nothing bad about it. Good luck and if you want reply to my email.

I have also been looking to buy a Magnatrac. I" ve seen them advertised in magazines for many years but in all my traveling, I have never seen one. When I called the company to see if they had customers who would not mind me taking a look at theirs, they said they did not give out that info. I sure would like to see one in action before I buy one. I can't justify buying one to use on 3 acres so I plan on hiring out on weekeds. Any info on where I can see one would be appreciated. I live in central Arkansas. Thanks

I have a 1994 25 hp magnatrac. I got it about 3 years ago. Used it to dig a septic system and excavate for my garage and home on acreage we have in Western Illinois. I am now ready to sell it, asking 10K. It has 460 hours, front loader, backhoe with 2 buckets (8 inch and 16 inch). I also purchased a new dozer blade for it. A complete owners manual. Works fine. Email me for more info/details. ebohatch@eibassoc.com

Hello Wayne and others,
I have a 1994 Magnatrac with 378hrs, 25hp Kohler, loader, backhoe, 3 pt hitch, rear pto, dozer blade, & 5 stage ripper. This machine is one powerful little powerhouse. When I first got this second hand I still had my doubts about it's power until the snow thawed and I took it across the street with the loader and leveled mounds of dirt that had been there for quite some time. I have dug out tree stumps and directed the creek to where I wanted it to flow and tons of other things. When I needed parts I contacted the Struck Corp and they were very prompt and a pleasure to deal with. Check out my toy that I have listed which is in the process of cleaned, painted, & replacing old worn parts but she still looks good with the dozer blade on it. I am located in Western New York and want to hear from all the Magnatrac owners or future owners because I can't really seem to find that many that want to talk about experiences or anything else. Hope to hear from some people.

Darin,
Did you buy the Magnatrac that was on E-Bay in January or February? I think the guy that was selling used it for doing septic tanks and drain fields. Anyway, the picture you had looked like that one. I corresponded with him a couple of times, but lost his email address.

Sounds like you've done quite a bit for just having a few months. I'm looking for one to do some work on a lot in the mountians. I've got alot of dirt to move, but I want something small so I don't have to knock down all the trees just to get it in.

Hello,

Yes I did buy that magnatrac out of ebay but now I just had to part with it a couple weeks ago and it already seems like months and months.

I did alot of things with that baby including leveling mounds of soil and uprooting some trees with either the raw traction or by using the backhoe. Either way they came out with ease. I was very pleased with everything this unit did after I did some well deserved maintenance which I want to say....If Struck recommends something to do for preventive maintenance I really suggest doing. Case in point checking you drive chains not your track but your two #80 & #50 chains after 200 hrs service for if you don't the same thing may happen to you as did I and have the primary drive sprocket teeth break off. Anyway if anyone out there wants to chat I still like talking about the magnatracs and if someone needs some possible help then just email me. Like always I am looking for used magnatracs because I really don't think that I will be happy unless I have one again. Even if they need extensive work I may be interested since I already went through alot and enjoyed most of it, almost a new hobby idea. Ha, Ha. Anyway talk to you all later.

I dont have the original magnatrac, I have the JR
and for the price and its size I've done quite a
few landscape projects and misc odd jobs. I noticed though it does not do well on sand, but clay, blackdirt and roadrock are no problem. As my
projects are winding down. I am looking to sell my
crawler. Thanks Frank

Hello Frank,

Well your unit sounds nice and really would only be interested in it's bigger brother. But if you advertise it you will sell it easily. What are you looking to get for it and maybe a better description wouldn't hurt. Talk later and goodluck.
