I'm looking for some info: What engine would have been used in a BF Avery Model R SN # 3674? Our local antique farm club obtained this tractor last summer. We'd like to learn more about it. Any info pertaining to the restoration of it would be welcome.

According to a book I've got here, the model R was made only in 1951. After this, I believe Minneapolis Moline bought Avery out (or maybe even earlier, I'm not sure) and painted the tractors yellow with MM decals. It has a Hercules IXB3 engine, (flathead) of 133 cubic inch displacement. It is listed at 2900 pounds with a front axel (standard tread) and 2735 pounds on the row crop version. A serial number book I have does not even list an Avery 'R' for numbers, plus the number you give is not really close to anything else for their numbers. Most of them have a letter sandwiched into the number. There is an Avery website atLink

I>Link had trouble finding it but eventually got there with help from a computer friend. There are serial numbers on one of their pages. I just 'inherited' (sort of) an Avery model 'A'. See ya

Thanks! This info will help us get parts, if needed. The serial number matches the data I got from the Avery Website for a 1951 R, as well as the YESTERDAY"S TRACTORS or ATIS serial number listings. I was looking for any and all information I could find when I ran across your discussion about accessing the website.
